A wonderful portrait miniature executed in watercolor on natural material, the sitter possibly being Sir William Stanhope. The coloring, composition, and detailing, even in the buttons and mole to the left of the sitter's mouth, bespeak a high talent, although we have not yet identified the artist. The sitter is a blue-eyed young man wearing a bag wig, a light brown jacket and vest, and a knotted white neckband.

In a gilded metal case with an overall size of 2" by 1 5/8", the painting is in excellent condition, with no cracks, chips, bowing, color loss, or restoration.
NOTE: The first photo accurately shows the lighting and coloration, but obviously has light reflection at the top. The second photo is displayed only to show that there are no flaws in the area covered by that reflection.
