A Charning American Foil Painting Early 20th Century
Please refer to our stock # a1459 when inquiring.
A very nicely executed tinsel(foil) work, reverse painted on glass with foil backing. The colors are vibrant, and the foil is expertly used to highlight the impact of this piece.
The condition of the painting is superb, as is that of the frame. The sight size is 7 1/2" by 6 1/2", and the framed size is 10 1/2" by 9 1/4".
NOTE: Foil paintings were done primarily in the second half of the 19th century, and were generally made by women and school girls. The colors and reflective surfaces displayed beautifully in rooms that were lit during that period with candles or gas lighting. This tinsel is one of the most reflective and startling examples, virtually a bright and shining light.
