This is a wonderful early glass sugar bowl, in a deep cobalt blue color, from Scotland or Northern England. It is delightfully gilded with the saying "Be Canny with the Sugar". The rim is also gilded.

The bowl is on a stem with two flattened knops, above a folded foot with a rough, snapped pontil. It stands 4 1/8" tall and is 4 5/8" in diameter. The condition is excellent, with no chips or restoration. The gilding itself is in very good condition, with less rubbing than the majority of gilded pieces of this type and era. The pictures do not do justice to the gilding, as it is very hard to photograph.
