A beautifully executed pair of miniature portraits on ivory, from a family estate in Philadelphia. The portraits are of the very handsome and attractive James and Julia Holmes (brother and sister), and descended in the family. Each is signed "Hagen," and were probably done by Earl Hagen, who worked in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey areas from 1810 to 1850. The frames are of cast metal (backed with fabric), and appear to be original. Sight size is 3" by 2 1/2". |
