A nicely done miniature painting on ivory of a lovely young woman. Beautifully executed miniature painting on ivory of an attractive young woman. According to writing on the reverse, the sitter is Julia Weigale, of NY, and the portrait was done in 1861.
The rendering of the details, from the sheen in the hair, the brooch, the careful shadings of the dress, and the exquisite treatment of the lace, indicates that the artist was quite talented and might have had some professional training. The piece is unsigned, and an attribution has not yet been made.
