A small and nicely painted miniature on ivory, with good detailing, of a gentleman in a blue coat. It is a little difficult to say 100 % definitively that the miniature is American, as it could also be English from this period. The frame appears to be gold of some content, and the back is covered with shagreen (a roughened untanned leather, originally made from the skin on the back of a horse or onager).
